Instructions and preparations

Necessary medications

If you have to perform a prostate biopsy, the following medication will be necessary:

  • Enema Cassen 250 ml. 3 containers
  • Ciprofloxacino 500 mgrs. pills

 

In case of allergies, you can replace Ciprofloxacin with MONUROL 3 ​​grams. 1 over 4 hours before in SINGLE DOSE.

Do you take some treatment?

If you are on anticoagulant treatment:

  •  Aspirina, Tromalyt, Disgren: Leave it 3 days before the test
  • Plavix,Iscover, Ticlid: 7 days before the test
  • Sintrom: You must first go through the Hematology service or whoever controls your treatment so that guidelines can be established from there.

Prepare for your prostate biopsy

Preparation for the MRI sequences programmed in Paracelsus Medical Diagnosis

  • Note at 6 hours before the exploration
  • 2 hours before the exploration put an Enema Cassen
  • Do not have sexual intercourse for 3 days before

 

Preparation for scheduled prostate biopsy in Paracelso Sagasta

DAY BEFORE THE EXPLORATION:

In the evening put an Enema Cassen of 250 cc

 

BIOPSY’S DAY:

  • When getting up after breakfast, the second Enema Cassen will be given.
  • Do not eat or drink anything from 6 hours before the appointment.
  • Antibiotic treatment: Ciprofloxacin 500 mgrs. 1 tab. every 12 hours starting 4 hours before the appointment WITH VERY LITTLE WATER (a small sip).
  • Do not forget to bring the preoperative (ECG, analytical and coagulation study and Rx)

 

AFTER BIOPSY:

  • Antibiotic treatment: Ciprofloxacino 500 mgrs. 1 pill each 12  hours  3 DAYS MORE
  • Avoid absolute rest.
  • Normal diet when leaving the clinic after 2 hours.
  • You have to go accompanied and do not forget that later you will not be able to drive any vehicle.
  • If you have discomfort: Ibuprofen 600 mg. 1 tab. every 12 hours
  • Bleeding through the rectum or urine is normal during the first 2 days.
  • In case of persistence or uncontrolled bleeding, as well as fever above 38º, go to the emergency room
  • The persistence of black or dark semen for 7 days after the biopsy is normal.
  • In the event of a problem, go to the emergency service.
