Ultrasound, also known as sonography, is a diagnostic technique that uses sound waves (ultrasound) to create images of organs, tissues, and organ structures that make up the digestive system. It is a basic test for the early diagnosis of pathologies and disorders that affect the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas and kidneys.

During the examination, the specialist moves the transducer over the part of the body to be studied, having previously applied a gel. This transducer sends sound waves (ultrasound) that “bounce” off different organs and tissues, forming the image.
