Hypertension: symptoms, diagnosis and treatment
Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a chronic pathology that is caused by a higher than normal force of blood flowing through the arteries. It affects about one third of the Spanish adult population and is one of the main risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases. By putting extra pressure on the heart and blood vessels, it increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other heart diseases. This is why it is crucial to prevent and control this pathology through regular medical check-ups.
